Fender announces Tom Morello Soul Power Stratocaster
Meet the new Fender Tom Morello Soul Power Stratocaster that comes with an alder body, maple neck, and compound radius rosewood fingerboard. It is the result of recreation of the modified Designer series strat Tom used during his time in Audioslave. In terms of electronics, the new Tom Morello Soul Power edition electric guitar equips Seymour Duncan Hot Rails bridge humbucker & two Fender Noiseless pickups in the neck and middle positions. Just like the original model, it also features a kill switch for creative rhythmic effects.
Fender Tom Morello Soul Power Stratocaster Features
Design and Construction
From the image, the first thing you will notice on the guitar is the big “Soul Power” art. Note that the guitar does not come with that art applied. It is up to you whether you want to apply the “Soul Power” decal available in the black Fender case or not.
Construction-wise, the new Fender Tom Morello Soul Power strat features an alder body and a Modern C-shape maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard. Due to the 9.5”-14” compound-radius fingerboard, it becomes relatively easy to do guitar solos at higher registers.
This latest Fender strat boasts FLOYD Rose double locking tremolo system that allows you to get creative beyond limits. One of the huge benefits of this double locking termolo system is that it keeps the guitar in tune while performing extreme vibratos with the tremolo bar.
Electronics
Fender Tom Morello Soul Power Strat equips a single Seymour Duncan Hot Rails Strat SHR-1B humbucker pickup in the bridge & two Fender Vintage Noiseless Single-Coil Strat pickups in the neck and middle positions.
The Seymour Duncan hot rails humbucker pickup aims at providing fat & punchy midrange with an aggressive character. Whereas the Fender Vintage Noiseless pickups provide the bright sound of the classic single-coil strat pickups without hum.
With the help of 5 position blade, you can switch different pickups and try different combinations. This is how the blade selects pickups at 5 different positions:
- Bridge Pickup
- Bridge and Middle Pickup
- Middle Pickup
- Middle and Neck Pickup
- Neck Pickup
Just like the original model, the new Fender Soul Power strat features a kill switch on the lower bout. The kill switch opens up a lot of creative rhythmic possibilities. Examples include Tom Morello’s famous scratch and stutter techniques.
